The Squirrel Who Shared

Sammy was a cheerful little squirrel who lived in a cozy hollow high inside a great oak tree. When autumn arrived, the forest turned beautiful shades of red, orange, and gold. Sammy knew that winter was coming, so every morning he hurried out to gather food.
He searched beneath the trees for walnuts, acorns, hazelnuts, and pine cones filled with tasty seeds. He worked hard every day, carrying his treasures back to his tree until he had built a huge pile that would last all winter.
Whenever he looked at his full pantry, Sammy smiled proudly.
"I've worked so hard for all of this," he thought. "I don't want to share it with anyone."
One chilly morning, as Sammy was organizing his winter supplies, he heard a quiet sob nearby.
He peeked outside and saw his friend **Bella**, a little squirrel, sitting sadly on a branch. Her ears drooped, and tears filled her eyes.
Sammy climbed over and asked gently,
"What's wrong, Bella?"
Bella sighed.
"I've searched the whole forest for nuts, but I could only find a few. I'm worried that winter will be long, and I won't have enough food."
Sammy looked at Bella's sad face.
Then he looked back at his own tree, where shelves were filled with more nuts than he could ever eat by himself.
For a moment, he stood quietly, thinking.
Then a warm smile spread across his face.
He hurried inside, found a large basket, and filled it with his very best walnuts, acorns, and hazelnuts.
Returning to Bella, he handed her the basket.
"Friends help each other," Sammy said kindly. "Please take these."
Bella's eyes sparkled with happiness.
"Thank you so much, Sammy!" she said, giving him a big hug.
At that moment, Sammy felt something even warmer than the autumn sunshine.
His heart was filled with joy.
Soon, the other forest animals heard about Sammy's kindness. Before long, everyone began helping one another.
The rabbits shared their carrots.
The birds shared their seeds.
The hedgehogs gathered mushrooms for their neighbors.
Even the busy beavers helped build warm shelters for animals who needed them.
When winter finally arrived and snow covered the forest, no one felt lonely or hungry, because everyone worked together and cared for one another.
As Sammy looked around at his happy friends, he realized something very important.
Food can warm your body, but kindness and sharing warm your heart.
From that day on, Sammy discovered that the greatest treasure wasn't the pile of nuts in his tree—it was the wonderful friends he had all around him.
