๐ฟ Part Five: Eden โ The First World
Rayan stood frozen.
Before him stood a child who looked exactly like him at six years old.
The same face.
The same hair.
The same eyes.
Except...
The child's eyes were glowing crimson.
The boy smiled.
And spoke:
โ "Found you."
Rayan took a step back.
โ "Who are you?"
The child tilted his head.
โ "Don't you recognize yourself?"
Suddenly, Zero shouted:
โ "Get away from him!"
Zero lunged between them.
In that exact instant, the child shifted.
His arms elongated.
His skin dissolved into billows of black smoke.
Rayan's face melted away.
In his place stood a tall, emaciated, faceless specter.
The Guardian announced:
"Shadow entity detected aboard the vessel."
Adam yelled:
โ "How did it get in here?!"
Zero answered:
โ "It slipped through the gate right behind us!"
The creature lunged straight for Rayan.
WHOOSH!
Zero raised his arm and discharged an azure kinetic shockwave.
BOOM!
The entity slammed against the bulkheadโthen immediately rose back to its feet.
Layan gasped:
โ "It didn't even faze it!"
The Guardian corrected:
"Correction: It agitated it."
Adam glared at the machine:
โ "Thanks for the insight!"
๐ค The Mimic
The creature began darting along the perimeter of the room, then vanished into thin air.
Rayan looked around:
โ "Where did it go?"
Zero scanned the area:
โ "Sensors are tracking no signature."
Suddenly, Layanโs voice called out from behind them:
โ "Rayan!"
Everyone spun around.
Standing there was a second Layan.
Adam looked at the original Layan, then at the duplicate:
โ "Oh... now that's a problem."
The second Layan cried:
โ "I'm the real one!"
The first Layan countered:
โ "No! She's the creature!"
Adam threw his hands up:
โ "Brilliant. Does anyone have a quick quiz to verify the authentic Layan?"
Rayan stepped forward:
โ "I do."
He looked at both of them.
โ "What was the probability of success for your plan to jump through the gate?"
The first answered immediately:
โ "4.7%."
The second hesitated:
โ "Five percent."
Rayan pointed instantly:
โ "That one!"
Zero fired an energy pulse straight at the second Layan. Her form collapsed back into the roiling black specter.
Adam stared:
โ "How did you catch that?"
Rayan smiled:
โ "Layan never rounds off a decimal."
Layan crossed her arms:
โ "Especially when our odds of dying were 95.3%."
Adam muttered:
โ "You really didn't need to finish that calculation."
โ๏ธ The Ambush Within
The entity slipped down the access corridor.
Rayan shouted:
โ "Don't let it reach the bridge!"
They took off in pursuit as emergency bulkheads dropped sequentially along the hall:
Clank!
Clank!
Clank!
Yet the creature dispersed into wisps of dark vapor, slipping effortlessly through the hairline seams.
The Guardian warned:
"Vector analysis: It is targeting the primary gate drive."
Samer asked:
โ "What happens if it damages the drive?"
The Guardian answered:
"We remain suspended indefinitely in the interdimensional void."
Adam sighed:
โ "I despise that answer."
They burst into the engineering bay.
The creature perched atop the main reactor housing. Black tendrils seeped through the casing, turning the core's azure luminescence into a volatile, angry red.
The Guardian announced:
"Reactor corruption at 21%."
Then:
"37%."
Zero warned:
โ "Do not discharge weapons. A stray shot will breach the containment field."
Rayan asked:
โ "Then how do we stop it?"
He scanned the chamber, noticing a detail: the creature was actively recoiling from the glare of the white emergency floodlights.
Rayan called out:
โ "Layan! Cut the main lights! Everything!"
She blinked:
โ "What?!"
โ "Trust me!"
She slammed the breaker.
Pitch-black darkness swallowed the room.
Adam whispered into the void:
โ "Rayan, is your tactical plan to stop a creature of darkness literally turning off the lights?"
โ "Wait for it."
Rayan unholstered a compact tactical flashlight, aiming the lens directly at the creature.
โ "Adam, shunt all auxiliary bus reserves directly into this diode line."
Adam realized the plan:
โ "Oh..."
A grin spread across his face.
โ "That's completely insane."
He spliced the leads.
The diode supercharged with blinding intensity.
WHOOOOOOSH!
A supernova of radiant white light washed over the chamber.
The creature shrieked:
GRAAAAAAAHR!
Its dark form vaporized into ash.
Yet before it dissolved completely, its glowing eyes locked onto Rayan.
Speaking in the deep, chilling cadence of the Shadow Lord, it rasped:
"You do not even know what you are."
Then it was gone.
๐ Arrival at Eden
Quiet settled over the ship.
The Guardian broke the silence:
"Interdimensional transit cycle concluding in ten seconds."
10... 9...
The crew gathered before the forward observation glass.
5... 4... 3... 2... 1.
The dreadnought cleared the event horizon.
Every voice fell silent.
Before them hung Eden.
A luminous world of emerald continents and sapphire oceans, encircled by three concentric golden rings.
Yet what captured their breath was not merely the planet's beauty, but what lay in orbit around it.
No starships.
No natural satellites.
Instead, thousands of colossal geometric monoliths drifted through the orbital plane in absolute, silent synchronization.
Adam stared:
โ "What are those structures?"
The Guardian answered:
"The Sentinels of Eden."
Without warning, every monolith flared online. Thousands of brilliant white sensor beams converged onto their vessel.
Adam asked nervously:
โ "Are they friendly?"
The Guardian replied:
"Unknown."
โ "Are they locking weapons?"
"Unknown."
โ "Do you have any useful data at all?!"
"Affirmative."
Adam waited.
The Guardian stated:
"We are completely surrounded."
Adam groaned:
โ "I miss the old Zero."
๐ช A Greeting from the First World
A prompt chirped on the communications interface.
Not a text transmission, but an acoustic chord: three pure, ascending tones.
Zero paused, his processor humming, then returned the exact harmonic sequence.
Instantly, the monoliths banked away, parting to form an open corridor leading straight into the upper atmosphere.
Layan breathed:
โ "They're granting us approach clearance."
Rayan took the controls:
โ "Take us down."
The dreadnought entered the atmosphere, gliding over boundless alien forests, silver lakes, and towering alabaster mountain ranges.
Yet...
Not a single city appeared on the surface.
Samer scanned the horizon:
โ "Where is the civilization?"
The Guardian replied:
"Beneath us."
The earth split open along a canyon fissure, revealing an immense subterranean hangar bay. The ship glided down into the depths.
๐๏ธ The City of Eden
Touching down below the crust, they stepped into a metropolis unlike anything in recorded history.
Spires sculpted from translucent, crystal-like stone rose into vaulted caverns, while rivers of suspended light flowed through the open air.
And at the heart of the city...
Stood a titanic tree.
Its trunk was pure alabaster white, its leaves shimmering gold.
Layan looked up in wonder:
โ "It's breathtaking."
Samer checked his biosensor:
โ "That is no botanical organism."
He double-checked the telemetry:
โ "It is... a computational machine."
As they drew near, a calm voice resonated behind them:
โ "You have kept us waiting a very long time."
They spun around.
A woman stood before them with cascading silver-white hair and golden eyes, flanked by dozens of attendants draped in flowing robes.
Rayan stepped forward:
โ "Who are you?"
She answered:
โ "We are the last stewards of Eden."
She turned her gaze toward Zero, bowing her head in deep reverence:
โ "At long last... the First Warden has returned."
Zero blinked:
โ "I am not a warden."
She offered a gentle smile:
โ "No."
She stepped closer:
โ "You are far more than that."
๐งฌ The Secret of Unit Zero
She led them into a vaulted rotunda beneath the Great Tree. Archival projections unspooled through the air.
She introduced herself:
โ "My name is Aura."
She pointed to an ancient image of Kyle:
โ "Millennia ago, Kyle came to Eden."
Rayan asked:
โ "Before he became the Shadow Lord?"
โ "Yes."
โ "Why did he come here?"
Aura answered:
โ "Because he sought the origin of the Gates."
A holographic rendering of Zero materialized.
Yet...
He was not an automaton.
Within Zero's mechanical frame rested a coalesced nexus of living light.
Adam asked in awe:
โ "What is that?"
Aura answered softly:
โ "A consciousness."
She met their stunned glances:
โ "Zero was never assembled on an assembly line. Zero was born here."
Zero tilted his head upward:
โ "Born?"
โ "Your chassis is alloy and circuitry. But your consciousness is no compiled algorithm."
She placed a gentle palm over his chest:
โ "You are the last of an ancient lineage."
Rayan asked:
โ "Why place him inside a machine chassis?"
Aura looked at Zero:
โ "So that he could escape."
She paused, her expression heavy:
โ "When Kyle unlocked the threshold, the Shadow converged on Eden."
โ "Why Eden?"
She turned toward the roots of the Great Tree:
โ "Because of what lies buried beneath it."
๐ Beneath the Tree
Aura guided them into a descent lift.
The platform began to drop.
One kilometer.
Two kilometers.
Five.
Ten.
Adam gripped the railing:
โ "Just how deep is this place?!"
Aura answered:
โ "It is not deep at all."
Adam stared at her:
โ "We just dropped ten vertical kilometers!"
She replied calmly:
โ "We are not descending through planetary crust."
The lift halted.
The doors parted.
Before them stretched...
Open space.
Rayan gasped:
โ "What?!"
They stepped out onto an observation platform. Above them hung the core of Eden; below them burned millions of distant stars.
Layan murmured:
โ "This defies physics."
Aura explained:
โ "Eden does not entirely answer to the physical laws of your dimension."
And directly ahead of them rested an arched portal.
A remarkably small, modest door.
Aura approached the threshold:
โ "Since the dawn of our era, this door has never been unsealed."
Samer asked:
โ "What lies on the other side?"
She answered:
โ "We do not know."
Rayan looked at her:
โ "Then why is the Shadow Lord hunting for it?"
Aura replied:
โ "Because he believes the primordial power that engineered the Gate network rests beyond it."
She turned her golden eyes toward Rayan:
โ "Yet he is mistaken."
โ "How can you be sure?"
โ "Because the door requires no cataclysmic force to open."
โ "Then what does it require?"
She pointed directly at him:
โ "It requires you."
๐ณ Rayan?
Adam let out a nervous chuckle:
โ "Rayan?"
Layan frowned:
โ "Why Rayan?"
Rayan looked at Aura in disbelief:
โ "I was born on Earth. I am ten years old. How could a portal that predates history require me?"
Aura replied:
โ "A sensible question."
She stepped forward, raising an ornate scanning crystal. A field of golden light wrapped around Rayan's frame, causing ancient glyphs to cascade through the air.
Auraโs expression drained of color.
Zero asked:
โ "What have your sensors registered?"
Aura whispered:
โ "Impossible..."
Rayan pressed:
โ "What is it?!"
She recalibrated the scan; the identical glyph sequence locked into place.
Aura took a step back, her voice shaking:
โ "Now I understand why the Shadow Lord has tracked you across the stars."
Rayan demanded:
โ "Why?!"
She looked into his eyes:
โ "Because you have stood here before."
Rayan shook his head:
โ "That makes no sense."
โ "Long before your life began on Earth..."
โ "Before what?!"
She pointed toward the ancient door:
โ "You were the one who sealed it."
A stunned silence swallowed the platform.
Adam muttered:
โ "This expedition has officially crossed into madness."
๐จ The Siege of Eden
Suddenly...
BOOOOOOOOOOM!
The foundation violently convulsed. Alarms blared across the complex.
Aura cried:
โ "No..."
A tactical holoscreen snapped open.
In high orbit above Eden...
An obsidian rift tore through space.
Then a second.
Then ten more.
Warships of the Shadow poured into the sector.
The Guardian hailed over the commlink:
"Hostile armada has breached the orbital line."
Rayan asked:
โ "How did they track our vector?!"
He recalled the entity aboard their vessel.
Zero declared:
โ "The Mimic."
Layan asked:
โ "Did it plant a tracking beacon?!"
Zero answered:
โ "Worse. It siphoned navigational coordinates from the dreadnoughtโs core cache before we vaporized it."
Aura looked at the door:
โ "We must evacuate the lower platform."
At that moment, the door clicked.
Click.
Everyone froze.
Click...
A faint cerulean pulse began rippling across its surface.
Aura whispered:
โ "It has not stirred like this in millennia."
Rayan took a step forward, drawn by an instinct he could not name.
โ "I feel..."
Layan asked:
โ "Feel what?"
โ "...like someone is calling my name."
He reached out, his fingers brushing the surface of the portal.
Aura screamed:
โ "Rayan, don't!"
Too late.
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
The starfield vanished.
The cosmos buckled around them.
The door swung wide open, unleashing a tidal wave of blinding white light that engulfed every soul on the platform.
Then...
Absolute silence.
๐๏ธ Beyond the Threshold
Rayan opened his eyes.
He stood entirely alone.
No Layan.
No Adam.
No Zero.
No Aura.
โ "Zero?!"
No reply.
Beneath his boots lay a vast, mirror-like expanse of shallow water stretching to the horizon. Above arched a pitch-black sky crammed with radiant hyper-giant stars.
Then came the sound of footsteps:
Step... step... step...
He spun around.
A solitary figure was walking toward himโa youth roughly sixteen years old.
The older boy stepped into the light. Rayan looked at his features and froze.
It was him.
Rayan.
Just six years older.
Rayan backed away, raising his fists:
โ "You're the Mimic!"
The youth shook his head gently:
โ "No."
โ "Then who are you?!"
He smiled faintly:
โ "I am you."
โ "That's impossible."
The older Rayan stopped a few paces away:
โ "You have a great deal of questions."
โ "Where are my friends?!"
โ "Still in Eden."
โ "And where am I?"
The older Rayan looked up at the stars, his voice solemn:
โ "You are in the future."
Rayan's breath caught in his throat:
โ "The future?"
โ "Yes."
โ "How many years?"
The older self looked back at him, the smile fading from his eyes:
โ "Three hundred and forty-seven years ahead."
Rayan's heart pounded against his ribs:
โ "What happened?!"
The youth offered no spoken answer. He simply raised his arm, pointing behind Rayan.
Rayan turned around.
His breath seized in his lungs.
Hanging in the sky...
Was a shattered world.
Half of its planetary mass had sheared away, colossal continental plates drifting lifelessly through the void.
Yet Rayan recognized it instantly:
The blue oceans.
The coastlines.
The Moon drifting in orbit beside it.
Earth.
Rayan whispered:
โ "No..."
The older Rayan spoke quietly:
โ "This is the outcome if you unseal the final Gate."
โ "Which Gate?!"
The youth met his gaze:
โ "The Gate that rests within you."
Before Rayan could speak, a desperate voice called out behind them:
โ "Rayan! Do not believe him!"
Rayan spun around.
It was Zero.
Yet this was not the Zero he had left behind: his chassis was pitted, scarred with centuries of corrosion, and half of his cranial housing was sheared away.
Rayan ran toward him:
โ "Zero!"
The broken droid thrust his arm forward, warning him away:
โ "Stay away from him!"
Rayan turned back toward his older selfโ
The figure had vanished.
Then the older voice resonated from every corner of the void:
"You cannot rewrite that which has already transpired."
Rayan yelled:
โ "What are you talking about?!"
The older Rayan materialized far in the distance, surrounded by fading projections: the Lost Planet, the Forbidden World, Zero, the Shadow Lord, Eden, and the fractured Earth.
He declared:
"You are not attempting to save the future, Rayan. You are attempting to avert the past."
Rayan turned back to the damaged Zero:
โ "What does he mean?!"
Zero offered no response.
โ "Zero?!"
The ancient droid bowed his head, delivering the truth Rayan was never prepared to hear:
โ "Because we did not travel 347 years into the future."
He stepped closer, his optical sensor dim:
โ "We have returned 347 years into the pastโto the exact coordinate where your story began."
Rayan shook his head:
โ "I don't understand..."
Zero looked toward the shattered remains of Earth, his voice flat with sorrow:
โ "Rayan... you were not born on Earth."
